Inspiration and composition
Reflecting on Life  is an organic-shaped mirror installation that combines simplicity with profound symbolism. A blue circle painted with Vitrail glass paint on the mirror’s surface evokes dual imagery: the fertilized egg, the genesis of human life, and the earth, the cradle of all known life. The artwork invites viewers to contemplate their personal journey from a single cell to a complex individual and to marvel at the shared origin of all living beings. The interplay between the reflective surface and the painted circle encourages introspection, connecting the viewer’s physical presence with the metaphysical theme of life's beginnings.

Abbestee drew inspiration from her academic studies and personal reflections on the mystery of life’s origin. A poster with a layered blue circle, reminiscent of a zygote, and her fascination with water as the elemental force in the creation of life, deeply influenced the visual approach for her art piece. The technical process involved experimentation with materials like glue-based and wax-based glass paints before settling on Vitrail glass paint for its depth and vibrancy. The result is a piece that elegantly balances scientific precision and artistic intuition.
Connection to 'Mysteries in Science'
This work embodies the enigma of life's origins—a question that continues to intrigue scientists and laypersons alike. It underscores the shared creative spark in both scientific inquiry and artistic expression, reminding us that creativity is central to both disciplines. By transforming abstract scientific concepts into a tangible and interactive medium, Abbestee fosters a dialogue that bridges intellectual curiosity and emotional resonance. She hopes viewers walk away with a renewed sense of awe for life's extraordinary journey and the interconnectedness of art and science.
